About Us
Shelby Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1977 to care for unwanted cats and dogs in Shelby County, Alabama. Previously referred to as “the dog pound”, today, Shelby Humane Society has become much more than that. We are a close-knit community organization and resource center, intent on bettering the lives of both the pets of Shelby County and the people who care for them, and we continue to strengthen existing programs and investigate additional programs that have a significant impact on our mission: “To care for homeless, abused, neglected and abandoned animals and educate the community to instill an increased awareness and commitment to the responsibility of animal ownership and protection.”
